Matt Hughes - Director
Matt Hughes is the Director and Camp Leader of OM Adventure Camp and the co-founder of The OM Experience, alongside his wife Olivia Hughes. With over 10 years of experience in education and more than 5 years working directly with children in camps, coaching, and enrichment programs, Matt brings a calm, engaging, and supportive approach to youth development. His passion is creating experiences where children can build confidence, connect with others, stay active, and grow through movement, creativity, leadership, and time in nature.
Matt’s teaching experience spans both international and local educational settings. He taught internationally in Japan with NOVA and worked with students ages 8–17 in international school environments connected to San Diego programs and Costa Rica. Locally, he taught at charter schools throughout San Diego at the high school level and most recently served as a teacher at Marble Valley Academy in El Dorado Hills, where he taught 4th through 8th grade students. His background gives him extensive experience supporting children across a wide range of ages, learning styles, and developmental stages.
In addition to classroom teaching, Matt has worked as a camp counselor for Point Loma summer programs and has coached youth soccer, helping children develop teamwork, leadership, resilience, and confidence through movement and play.
Alongside his wife Olivia, Matt has also co-led eight wellness retreats in Puerto Vallarta focused on mindfulness, movement, yoga, and personal growth. Through OM Adventure Camp, he brings together his experience in education, wellness, outdoor exploration, and community-building to create a meaningful summer experience where kids feel supported, inspired, and excited to grow.
